Cooking

Cooking not only prepares children for life, but also teaches various math concepts. However, for me the most wonderful thing about teaching my children to cook is spending time with them. This is a great way to bring the family together and even little ones can help.

One of our favorite things to do when studying history is to find recipes. I have been going through my bookmarks and adding the links to the Education Jump-Off web site when I came across one for Greece. As I looked at the site I realized it is a great site for kids!!!

Kids Cooking Activities is a unique site geared towards nothing but cooking. Signing up for the newsletter will get you the free e-book "Cooking with the Alphabet." This neat little book contains ideas for make the alphabet, one to two recipe for each letter, other foods that begin with the letter and suggestions of other foods to make.

I love the picture recipes, these are great for non readers and the site owner suggests creating a cook book with them. Their blog is loaded with all type of cooking information, ideas and recipes. Enter the cooking recipe contest ends August 31, 2011, the theme is pasta however, the recipe has to be your own. Both adults and children can enter the contest.

Have you ever been at a lose for ideas for a birthday party? How about a cooking party? Site owner Debbie Madson has done the work for you all you have to do is implement it. She has included tips and ideas, invitations, goody bag ideas, a planning menu along with party cakes and games. Some of the games can be used for a fun educational activity.

I also love the cook with books page. Includes various titles, many popular children's titles along with a recipe. This be great for either right before lunch or snack time, children can help to prepare their own lunch or snack, even if it means just gathering the supplies.

This site is very extensive including by limited to cooking lessons for under 3 through 18, science experiments, seasonal cooking, international cooking, fun with food and more.
